Kluang Rail Coffee, a famous spot in Johor, started 78 years ago as a canteen for British soldiers. Its main attractions are its signature Kluang Coffee and rich toast, both made using a special family recipe.
The cafe was established in 1938 by Ben Winn’s ancestors, Lim Luan Hee and his grandfather Lim Heng Yong. They were invited to open a canteen at the Kluang Railway Station, which was part of the main railway line connecting Malaysia and Singapore.
Back then, Kluang was becoming an important stop, close to military camps, the post office, and the Central Electricity Board (now Tenaga Nasional Berhad). Today, Kluang Rail Coffee is a well-loved place, known for keeping its traditions alive and serving delicious food to visitors from all over.

2. Street Art Kluang
Street art is a common sight in Malaysia, with vibrant murals found in almost every city. Among the best-known destinations is Georgetown on Penang Island, a hotspot for street art enthusiasts. Inspired by Georgetown’s success and aiming to rejuvenate deteriorating areas, Kluang launched its own street art initiative.
In 2016, the Kluang Kreatif1020 Festival was introduced. The event’s name reflected the town’s founding year (1910) and its vision for growth by 2020. A total of 24 murals were created during the festival. While some remained vibrant during my visit in 2020, others had already begun to fade.
